It was a beautiful warm winter day a couple of days ago, perfect for porch sitting. The sun was shining and there were diamonds on the water - and the fishermen were out on the lake. It was just a perfect day.
As well our local wildlife was out strutting their stuff. This blue heron dressed up in its mating finery was walking across the edge of the lake right at our back door.
I call these pics "One bird - many necks" I couldn't get over how he/she could change its appearance in just a few seconds by bending, turning, and stretching the neck.
Our lake never ceases to amaze us.
Oh, and I think I found the perfect job for Alf.
Only problem, we don't live in Marion County, guess we will have to move! He does have an email address, and I do hope he has a clean criminal history and no fish and wildlife violations. Athough I understand he had a pretty wild life as a teenager.
TRIP TO LAKE WALES
Lynn and Brian Scully, (Alf's sister and brother-in-law) are visiting us here in Florida, so today we took them on a trip to Lake Wales to see the sights. And this time I had my camera with me.
Lake Wales has a lot of wall murals on the sides of the buildings.
smaller ones like these elephants
and great big ones that covered the whole walls of buildings.
And lots of interesting little shops to browse in,
interesting and strange items in the shop windows
like this football themed gator lamp
and this rather unusual feathered statue, (couldn't really get a good pic because of window glare);
interesting finds inside the shops. I had to take a pic of these boxes for my farmer friends.
And I loved this lamp but wasn't willing to pay $80 for it! Pina colada anyone?
and lots of beautiful gardens and trees
and lots of really interesting architecture.
There was also this very large building (it used to be a hotel, and I would say a very grand one in its day) that is now abandoned and surrounded by wire fencing. My guess is that they are tearing it down, but such a shame because it could be quite beautiful if it was restored.
so thought I would leave this with you
