We have just returned from our first ball game of the spring training season at Joker Marchant Stadium, Lakeland, spring home of the Detroit Tigers. And the first game of the spring season for the Blue Jays "GO JAYS, GO!"
And here is the play by play account.
Sold out stadium and there were fans out in the farm soaking up the heat!
It was hot out there - 85 degrees at game time.
They announced that it was 37 in Toronto and 32 in Detroit.
Think I will take the heat, thank you very much.
Here come the Boys of Summer!
A little warm up line dance -
and some serious stuff too!
Manager John Gibbons was there telling everybody
"We are going to win by this much!"
So out to the plate he goes just to let the umps and other team know exactly how it is going down.
So let's play ball!
#13 Brett Lawrie (what happened to the names on the shirts, they better be there when the season starts!!!!)
Friends from our park were sitting right across the aisle from us
- but I don't think they are Blue Jays fans - but we won't hold it against them. They are from upstate New York so I think they are Yankee fans.
After the first inning the Tigers were ahead
But after that, the game belonged to the Blue Jays.
While I was gone, Alf had the camera and he actually had the nerve to take some pics of the Tigers.
I was not amused :)
But it didn't jinx the Jays,
they just kept going
A grand slam! 7 - 3
And a 3 run home run put it out of the ball park and out of reach!!!!!
A little incident out in right field - they collided on a long ball catch - but he caught the ball and the inning was over.
The Jays won 10 -3 and the headline in the Globe and Mail
