Well a request was made for a blog update, apparently my Facebook posting about the swamp boys left someone wanting more info.

So the 4 swamp boys (no kidding, that's what they called themselves, cause they live in the swamp north of Lakeland, you know, the swamp with all the gators) arrive in their Kia Sportage.  They unload their tools and supplies and start working.

There were two places were the subfloor had to be fixed, and so they set to work, ripping out the old subfloor and replacing with new.  They ripped out all the old carpet and underpad and strapped the five foot high load onto the top of the Sportage and all four of them hopped in took off to the shop to drop of the load and come back with the piece of 4X8 subfloor, which arrived on the roof on the said same Sportage.  As did the roll of carpet on a subsequent trip.  Luckily the shop wasn't too far away.

Alf said it reminded him of a commercial for Kia a few years back where people go racing through the swamp with their car loaded up and waving and carrying on.

When they left for the last time, the car was loaded to the gills, with the cardboard tube from the carpet sticking out the back window, they all piled in and the last bag of garbage was loaded into the lap of the front seat passenger.  I said jokingly that maybe they needed a larger vehicle, and they answered "Yes m'aam we are waiting to get one".  They were very polite guys, everything was Yes m'aam, or Yes sir!  (Actually all the locals use that phrase down here, store clerks, folks on the phone, whenever I ask a question they answer, yes m'aam or no m'aam)

They did a great job (although they left a few handprints on the wall where they had been replacing subfloor) but not a problem.

The new carpets looks great, and the place is really taking shape.  I didn't take any pictures yesterday, but stay tuned for some before and after pics.  I really wanted to take some pics of the swamp boys but didn't want them to think I was making fun of them, at their expense.

We hope to spend our first night in our new home on Friday, just a few more things to be done, pest control comes today, (just to make sure there are no 4, 6, or 8 legged house guests living in the walls), and the new mattress and box spring gets delivered on Friday.

Alf washed all the outside walls of the house and cleaned the deck floor, it looks like new!
While the swamp boys were laying the carpet, I cleaned out the laundry/utility shed, pitching stuff left and right, threw out the old cruddy carpet and washed down the walls. (I had to pitch some of the stuff, when Alf wasn't looking, he always wants to keep stuff - just in case - even if we  don't know what the stuff is)  The laundry room looks much better now.

Oh, we also discovered this wonderful little treasure and 'antique' shop in Dundee, , just a short walk away.  It was filled with wonderful treasures, at really great prices.  We are looking forward to regular walks to the shop to see what we can find.

The Florida drought has broken.  The rain came!  They hadn't had any rain for over 60 days, but when it came it really came.  It poured for several hours, and rained again during the night.  The grass is already greening up and things look a lot fresher.

Well I need to clean up the 5th wheel a bit before we head over to the house, so

Ta ta for now!
