On the last day of February Lynn and Brian's friends, Rosemary and Wayne, came up to Winter Haven for a visit. We decided to go to the Cherry Pocket for lunch. We had been told that it was quite an experience.
The ad on the billboard was enough to make you just wanna go
They had a copy of it laminated to the tables
so here it is
If you can't read it, its says
Cherry Pocket
Steak, Seafood Shak and Oyster Bar
Fish Camp - Warm Beer - Cold Food
CherryPocket.com
2100 Canal Rd. 6.6. Mi. - RLRLR
The RLRLR are the directions to get there.
Turn right at the corner were the billboard is, then turn left,
then right, then left, right. And you are there!!!
We are really?-
where is the restaurant?
Oh that must be it - the place is an old fishing camp - but even at 1:30 in the afternoon the place was quite full. It is a popular place.
As I said it is an old fishing camp and the campground is pretty rustic - with some ramshackle places but the restaurant was top notch.
Our waitress came to the table to take our order.
She looked at Rosemary and I and paused and said
"Twins?" We just looked at here blankly
and she said well "Sisters?, Cousins?"
Rosemary and I looked at each other and said
"What?"
and then we paused and realized we did look a bit like each other -
same hair colour and style, and similar glasses.
We had Brian take our pic just so we could check it out and we had to agree.
What do you think? That is Lynn on the left. I am on the right just in case you can't tell who is Rosemary and who is Mary.
And here is a pic of the whole hungry crew eagerly awaiting our meal
So first on the agenda, once we got who was who figured out
was an order of
wait for it -
gator bites -
They were quite tasty -
But what was really good was the main course - I had blackened grouper and Alf had blackened catfish with sweet potato fries. It was the best fish we have had here in Florida.
Now here is the the back of the T-shirt of our waitress. Remember, don't be shocked
- it is a oyster bar!!!!!
The desserts were superb - they were so good we forgot to take pics - we got three different kinds - and kept passing them around the table.
When we left the restaurant we went for a walk and there just out past the dining deck was this guy
he was quite a character
he even made sure we read the sign
and just in case we didn't understand,
he pointed it out again
Yep, it says
"No Parkin'
Violators will be shot"
and how about that snowmobile danger sign!
Mind you it was pretty cold today - we went to the Blue Jays game at the Tiger Spring Training camp and it was down right chilly up there in the stands - there was a cold north wind blowing - did you folks up north send it our way. The announcer said it was 37 in Toronto and 65 at game time in Lakeland but it sure felt a lot colder than that. My blood must have thinned out to Florida standards. (oh and the Blue Jays lost 4-1, and we didn't win the 50/50 draw which was almost $4000 for the lucky winner.)
So I hoped you enjoyed our little jaunt to the Cherry Pocket and thanks to Brian for the pics because I forgot my camera.
And a big hello to our new friends we made in Florida who have already had to make their way home. We miss you, and hope to see you next year.
