Wildlife Update!

The day started off with us spotting one of the sandhill cranes laying on our backyard.  Alf pointed him out to me and I said is that a bird on his back.

Yep, it was.  I believe it must have been a baby sandhill crane.  Sitting on his Momma's back.   Cute eh!.  (gotta use eh now and then don't want to forget I am Canadian)

They have been sitting around a lot like this maybe they have been hatching their eggs.

Now we had been told that there were three gators in our lake - two little ones around 3 feet and one about 7 feet long, but that they mostly kept to themselves over in the reeds and swampy areas.

Well, Alf was bbq'ing chicken tonight and he asked me -"is that an alligator or a turtle?".
I thought it was one of the turtles but then I wasn't sure.  So I got out my camera and used the zoom - and you know what maybe it was a gator.

Alf took the camera (I was in barefeet so I wasn't going off the deck) and he went about 10 feet closer and took a pic - and yes it was a gator, about 10 feet off the shoreline and probably one of the little guys about 3 feet long.  He must have liked the smell of the chicken.  Hmmmm.  Think maybe we should bbq out front - or else set an extra setting at our table.  They serve gator in the restaurants down here.  And like my cousin suggested, I could have a wallet and some boots.  Is that illegal?

Not gonna happen!  I am not venturing too close to the water - dododododododo - (shark theme - turned into gator theme.)

And I do hope that baby crane didn't turn into dinner for the critter from the deep.
